I'm ready to put together Speech 4 from the Technical Presentations
manual (The Technical Paper Presentation).o

After some consideration I am going to do present RFC 977 which defines
the NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol). This will be better known to
some as usenet or newsgroups.

Is there anyone who would rather I don't use their posts as an example
of a client/server and server/server exchange when giving my
presentation?

I know that once posted, all posts are pretty much open to use and abuse
so thought I'd check first.

Regards
Nigel

I have no problem with your using mine. Just selectively edit the

Hey Nigel,

Even though, I believe that these are public forums, and while some
people may claim copyrights to their posts, I'm not sure how much that
would stand up in a court. Yet, you'd still be covered from what I
have read based on "Fair Use", at least in the US. And I believe that
if you quote your source, and not "cull" information, then you're
really good to go.
Cheers,
Judd

"The primary defense to copyright infringement is "fair use." 17 U.S.C.
§107. The fair use doctrine allows the reproduction and use of work,
notwithstanding the rightsof the author (17 U.S.C. §§ 106 and 106A),
for limited purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting,

As I read Nigel's original post, he asked if anyone would rather he
didn't use their posts. For that reason, since I had no objection, I
didn't respond.

Since everyone else has responded with 'go ahead', I suppose I should
follow suit. Go ahead, Nigel.

Thanks but I wasn't asking as a point of copyright, I was asking as a
point of respect for my fellow Toastmasters.

How could so many of us detail-oriented critics be so eager to cooperate
with our fellow toastmaster that we miss the question altogether? Amazing!
Great job, Rod!

Ironically, though, while you point out our reading deficiencies, Rod, you
also uncover our hidden powers of persuasion! Hmmm... Peer pressue isn't
just a myth!
