people quiet while the judges fill in the ballots. But, I've never seen
anyone do this (which makes me think it might be against the rules or
simply not a good idea). Thoughts?

I'm just getting around to replying to this message.
I'm concerned about the distraction factor. I easily get distracted when
I'm supposed to be paying attention to something.
But don't worry about me getting distracted by a crossword puzzle.
Despite almost 15 years of being in Toastmasters, I'm not a word-loving
person. I got very low scores on my verbal SATs 35+ years ago.
But what I do love are word search puzzles. I know there is software
that can create them, too. Another thing I love are puzzles called
Fill-it-Ins. Basically, a Fill-it-In is a crossword puzzle in which the
words are given, grouped by the number of letters they contain, and the
person solving the problem has to fit them into the correct place in the
puzzle. This is pretty challenging in itself, especially if most of the
words are confined to two or three different lengths. There is a new
Fill-it-In posted daily at a web site called www.bigopolis.com.

I'm guessing that there's some program or movie called "Hannibal" in
which there's a star named Hopkins. (If there is, I know I'm sounding
real stupid right now.) Well, I'm off to www.imdb.com to see if I'm correct.
Alternatively, people who live in the DC area (and I know the judges
will be coming from all over; I'm just talking about people who live in
the DC area now) may be familiar with the last name of the namesake of a
university in the next city north (Baltimore).
