Who's entering International this year?

We're only about a month from the opening of International contest season.
Who in here is entering this year? I will be, assuming I come up with a
speech. I may actually haul out and dust off one I used a few years ago,
winning at Area, before I had to withdraw when division fell on a weekend I
was unavailable. I have another idea - well, not really an idea, just an
anchor phrase - kicking around in my head, but I haven't formulated it into
anything yet.

Not me, of course, but I'm signed up to be contest master for about 9
contests so far.

My club contest is Feb. 1, and I have committed to making another run.
I have some incredibly strong speakers who have transferred to my club,
and some who were there before, so it will be no cakewalk.

9 contests? And I thought I was a junkie....

Make sure you find a way to get some manual credit in for those -
Master of Ceremonies, CL credits, etc. And write off those drycleaning
expenses.

And Nigel would never want to do something "fancy" like be in a
contest. After all, he's a "Plano Talker."

(Ok, ok, that WAS a bad pun. No wonder Rich is worried that people want
to throw bucketsof water on me...)

I'm working on a speech for that contest now. That is, I think about it
from time to time. Mostly it's percolating in the back of my mind, where
most of my speeches are born.

It's interesting how that works, isn't it? I always encourage good speakers
to compete - and then I think, "What have I done? I've just made the
competition tougher." Of course, if I manage to beat someone who is really
good, that's a great boost to my self-confidence.

I just joined a club in part because they have such strong contest
speakers. One fellow was 3rd in the region last year (and beat me at
the Division level) and there is one other District champ in the club
as well. I'm looking forward to the challenge! I'm still in another
club so I plan to compete in both clubs and see what happens. I enjoy
contests and learn more every time I compete...takes all my preparation
up several notches.
