I am going to be giving a speech out of the "humorously speaking" manual
about a hunting trip where several things went wrong. Actually, it is a
composite of happenings from several trips, but all the events are things
that really happened.
As a "costume" for this speech, I bought a blaze orange vest, like crossing
guards, etc., wear. I also bought an orange cap.
I was wondering if it is overkill I buy a toy hunting rifle and use that as
a "prop" like the vest and the cap, or if that is overkill.
I am also making a powerpoint that is basically a "slide show" to illustrate
my talk. I was going to try and describe it, but I decided to upload it to
gmail, then publish it, so anybody that is interested can look at it. It is
at this address: http://docs.google.com/Presentation?id=dcsgrxrv_50fqfrqkhg.
The picture from the "Beverly Hillbillies" might be a bit of a "dome
scratcher". When I get to the part about actually leaving on the heunting
trip, I will say "...so we loaded up our truck..." (even though it was
actually a Suburban), and I think that is the picture they show when they
sing that line from the theme song. If not, it is close enough.

In a humorous speech contest I think there's a pretty high bar for overkill,
so you're likely fine.

Should be a fine visual. I've toyed with doing this kind of thing, but never
gotten around to it. have fun!

Props are used to enhance a speech or to make a point. If you feel it
will enhance your speech, then use it.
