I just went to Google and put in "toastmasters district map". I was
looking for the PDF with all the Districts. Interesting results.

The first link comes up with Distrct 53's link to my mapping project
site.

The second link is my mapping project site.

The third link is the one I was looking for, the Toastmaster map of
districts.

Amazing how easy it is to get to the top of Google if you have the right
website. Maybe I should start accepting advertising :)

Regards
Nigel

I find your mapping website very useful, Nigel. Thanks.

I usually google to find it. Google uses links for ranking and all the
links in the NG also count.

That's cool thanks. I'm going to change the section where you can fix
the geocoding of your club to use the movable marker. It'll be more
accurate and less problematic than with the current method. I'll add
that in the next day or two.

Great job Nigel. By the way, I'm just checking in. I access this site
through google, and am having problems with all the spam popping up
lately. But... as Ahnold says "I'll be back!" Just biding my time
until things clear up.

People have had fun with that. Awhile back, a group of people got the
Google search for "best search engine" to point to Yahoo. I see that it
no longer points to Yahoo.

That gives me some ideas on how to do it for District 39.

BTW: Over the weekend, for our directory chair, I created a routine to
dump the District Database into usable text files that can be imported
into Word. Hopefully, next round, I can generate an actual .doc file.

I've been thinking about that too. PERL cannot write Word documents on a
Linux platform (or I should say on a non Win32 platform) as far as I can
tell. I would probably use OpenOffice::OODoc to write the file and they
can either use OO or save it as a Word document.

Maybe I'll create a script where you can upload your spreadsheet and
it'll throw out a directory Smile

One thing that I wish WHQ would do is allow districts to keep "local"
information in their database such as who are governors, staff, judges,
chief judges, etc., It would make many processes so much easier.

It'd also be nice to make the district database accessable to everyone
else, however WHQ expressly forbids putting any members details on a
website, password protected or not.

http://www.toastmasters.org/Members/OfficerResources/PoliciesandProcedures/UseofWebPages.aspx
Additional rules for district Web pages:

* Districts may not include any club officer or individual member
names, addresses, e-mail addresses or telephone numbers on their Web
pages, even in a password protected area.

This put a dent in quite a few plans I had. Oh well. Anyone responsible
for a district website would go themselves good to check out that
website.

Socrates taught his students that the pursuit of truth can only begin once
they start to question and analyze every belief that they ever held dear. If
a certain belief passes the tests of evidence, deduction, and logic, it
should be kept. If it doesn't, the belief should not only be discarded, but
the thinker must also then question why he was led to believe the erroneous
