Hi everyone;

Our club is losing a valuable member, and I want to give her a letter of
introduction for her next club. What do you think I should put in it,
and what should I leave out?

Thanks in Advance;

Alison

I've never heard of that being done, but why not? It's a nice idea. I
would put in the most important things she has done for the club. Of
course, if she's held all the offices, you don't have to name all of them.
Certainly it would be nice to say what you said here - that she was a
valuable member and you hate to lose her.

I only know of a small number of clubs that do such a thing. I just
thought it would be a nice idea to give her "a foot in the door" so to
speak. Plus it means that she won't have to explain what she has done
and hasn't done. I have written what I hope is a good letter, but have
asked for her input - I don't want to embarrass her.

That's very thoughtful of you Alison. I just left my home club and got
"nothing" despite all my contributions to the club in 7 1/2 years, I got
nothing. Smile I may join another club in the future but a letter of
introduction means nothing for me and I think it would not be important
to the club I may join and I would not show it anyway.

IMO, what is probably better appreciated by an outgoing member is an
expression of recognition from the club for his/her contributions to the
club and Toasmasters. There are many different ways to express this as
individuals members and collectively as a club. What is important is to
do it when the club ember is still there.

The biggest advantage you could give to the INCOMING Club would be to
provide:

- YOUR Club number
- The members' official WHQ member number
- The club member's exact educational progress

I cannot tell you what an absolute pain it is to find out some of
these things afterward. It will help the incoming secretary transfer
membership, VP-Ed determine their educational status, and get their
membership processed quickly!
