It's been a while since I've mentioned this so I guess I'll mention a
small update.

http://toastmasters.sysadmininc.com btw, is my unofficial Toastmasters
club mapping project.

However, not every club location is accurate on the map. Only those that
have been entered manually or moved by submitting the location from
Google Maps, or those submitted to be via a spreadsheet are considered
accurate.

When a user clicks on club into, it'll tell them if the location has
been verified, if so it'll tell them when, otherwise warm them to
contact the club before turning up.

Always open to more suggestions for the club mapping project.

Some districts name their divisions, for example in District 50 we have
Eastern, Plains, Town North, Southern, etc...

Would it be useful to be able to put your division names into the
system?

Do you think it'd be a good idea for me to email every club contact and
ask them to verify their club, and how to check their address to make
sure it's in a reliable form for processing?

Anything else?

Now that break is over, I'm working again on the district 39 website.
Did I mention that our maps are located at http://www.district39.org/maps

How about displaying the maps by day of the week when the club meets as
well as dividing it up by the time of day.

Fortunately, we just use division letters.

No, because some of the e-mail contacts are not up to date. I discovered
this when I set up the district database.

Anyways, on your website, you state...

Quote:
To submit a spreadsheet simply put the club number, longitude and latitude in and email it to me! Make sure you mark the columns so I know which is lat. and which is lon. I can then load them into the database and mark them verified.

Well, I have set up two links for you to use that pull from the District
39 database...

http://www.district39.org/maps/csv_screen.php
http://www.district39.org/maps/csv_download.php

Mind you, I supplied more info than you requested, but it includes the
latitude and longitude. Enjoy.

Not as easy as it seems. I would have to do a massive amount of parsing.
As you can see here, there's many different formats, this is just 50 out

No, because some of the e-mail contacts are not up to date. I discovered
this when I set up the district database.

If it's not up-to-date then it'll maybe get them to update it or, at
least, pass the message on to the right person.

That's ok. I can just hide the columns I don't need and we're done. Your
clubs have been imported into the database. Thanks for that information.

Let see if my rules apply to your sample. I defined morning clubs as
clubs whose meeting time is before 10 AM and evening clubs as starting
after 4 PM. The rest would be defined as midday. Lets see how it works.

No problem. Pull down updates anytime. I'm about to add a new club.

As currently designed, the District 39 DB has the clubs selecting the
meeting days and start time. If they have a special meeting schedule,
they enter that into a text field.

Problem solved.... if they search for a club that meets on a Wednesday,
any club which meets on Wednesdays shows up in the search... even a club
that meets on 1st Mondays and 3rd Wednesdays.

I'm only taking data from WHQ for reasons I've explained before. The
only items in my database that are not from WHQ are the geocoding
information. I can't start letting people enter their own information or
get it from other places then WHQ.

I'd love to do it, but just can't with unreliable data.

We have a club like that in our district, except the 1st & 3rd they meet
at one time and the 2nd & 4th they meet at the other time. Don't
forget, they meet in different buildings at the different times. Our
data base chair lists it as "call for meeting time & place".

We had one club that just listed the business park for the location.
They would meet at one of the conference rooms in the park. There is a
reason they were named Noontime Nomads. A year or so ago, they moved to
a location that gives them a fixed meeting room.

However, almost any time you see 12:00 listed without "noon" or "midnight",
noon is shown as 12:00 PM and midnight as 12:00 AM.

Rather than put up an argument in the District 39 database, I just said
"to heck with it", and did a substr of 12:00 PM with noon.

I suspect we're going to lose this one. Defintions are determined by usage,
not by history. If you check dictionary.com, they've already as much as
admitted that people use the words interchangably.
